New Young’s Bay Bridge
Project Details
Owner: Oregon Department of Transportation
Location: Astoria, OR | June 2007 – March 2009
Advanced American Construction began this upgrade to the New Young’s Bay Bridge the summer of 2007, the first substantial upgrade since being built in 1964. The bridge carries 14,000 vehicles, from log trucks to motorcycles, between Astoria and Warrenton everyday. Improvements during this project included structural upgrades, a remodeled bridge operator’s house, replacement of the lift-span electrical systems, and installation of safety barriers and traffic gates.
A new underwater submarine power cable was plowed in by AAC to take the place of power lines that used to be attached to the bridge’s superstructure. The bridge also received a new coat of green paint that is expected to last 15-20 years. The extreme weather conditions and access played a dynamic role in the overall production of this project.
