Port of Vancouver Terminal 1 Demolition
Project Details
Owner: Port of Vancouver
Location: Vancouver, WA | August 2023 – February 2024
Advanced American Construction (AAC) completed the demolition and removal of the existing Terminal 1 dock at the Port of Vancouver. The project included full removal of the dock structure and extraction of all existing timber piling, 1,000 total, within the Columbia River.
The primary objectives of the project were to complete all work within the contract schedule and to extract all timber piles within the In-Water Work Window (IWWW) requirements. Despite challenging river conditions during the winter and spring months, including fluctuating water levels, AAC successfully met all regulatory and schedule constraints.
During demolition, numerous unidentified timber piles were encountered that were not shown in the contract documents. AAC incorporated the removal of approximately 100 additional timber piles while maintaining compliance with the IWWW and overall project schedule. As a result, the project was completed on time and under budget, exceeding the Port of Vancouver’s expectations.
Staton Companies served as AAC’s subcontractor and performed demolition and removal of the dock decking, timber stringers, and pile caps.
